Christmas Take our patient survey

Patient Participation Group

Minutes from last week's PPG meeting have now been added to our website on the Patient Group page below.

New Staff!

I am delighted to welcome two new staff to the Boultham Park team. Cecilia Everingham, our new practice nurse and Dr Geeta Aurangabadkar both joined the practice in January.

Patient Reference Group Survey

As of today, 22/2/12, we are up to a total of 138 completed surveys. Quite a few (60+) have been by post and I manually added these to our website in order to see the overall picture. The results are pretty encouraging but I remain slightly disappointed by the response rate given that around 220 patients said they would respond if asked. I reckon 180 responses, at 2% of our patient list size, would be good so please encourage other patients to sign up to the PRG and complete the survey. It really only takes a couple of minutes. Many thanks.

Appointments

calendarAll our consultations are by appointment, but medical emergencies are dealt with as a priority.

Our appointments are bookable up to 6 weeks in advance with the GP of your choice or on the day that you wish to be seen with any GP (available for booking by contacting reception after 8.15 am in person or by telephone). Appointments are generally held at 10 minute intervals.

Please let us know if you are unable to keep an appointment in order that we can make this time available to other patients. Patients who fail to attend three appointments without notifying the surgery beforehand will receive a warning letter. If a patient does not attend future appointments following the letter, they may be removed from this practice list. We regret the need for this approach with a small minority of patients but believe this to be in the interests of our patients generally. Please register for free text messaging reminders.

How to book on the day you need to be seen

Some appointments are available for patients needing an appointment on the same day as the request being made. Patients requiring an appointment for the same day will be offered an appointment with any available GP or Nurse if appropriate.

You need to contact reception from 8.15 am to book an appointment for that day.

If you have an urgent medical problem and there are no appointments left you will be seen as an "extra". When contacting the surgery please indicate if you feel the problem is urgent. To assess the degree of urgency you will be asked for further details and these will be passed to the doctor. The doctor may:

  • bpcheckSpeak to you on the phone
  • See you in the surgery (as soon as possible or at the end of surgery)
  • Visit you (immediately or at the end of surgery)
  • Advise you go to the hospital A&E department
  • Arrange for you to be seen by a nurse
  • Send an ambulance
  • If you are in a life-threatening situation or have severe chest pain likely to be a heart attack please phone for an ambulance by dialing 999.

Choose & Book

Choose and Book is one of the first initiatives by the NHS to allow patients to be more involved in taking decisions and making choices about their healthcare. If a doctor refers you for secondary care, you will be informed of your choice of hospital/ healthcare provider.
  • Choose and Book will enable patients to choose a convenient place, date and time for their initial hospital appointment. Patients will be able to choose from one to four hospitals (or other healthcare providing facilities) commissioned by their PCT.
  • Information on these hospitals will be provided to GP staff and patients at www.nhs.uk to enable them to choose.

Practice Location and Parking

The Practice is located on Boultham Park Road behind the Library in Boultham Park Road, Lincoln, near to the roundabout with Rookery Lane, Moorland Avenue and Skellingthorpe Road.  The Practice has ample parking facilities in a shared car park with the Boultham Park Library. For buses, you require either the 66, 44 or re-routed 46, all passing the surgery on a regular basis.

Chaperones

During your appointment with a doctor or nurse you are welcome to ask for a chaperone. This will usually be one of the nursing team, however if a nurse is unavailable another staff member can chaperone with your agreement.

Protected Learning Time

To maintain a high standard of care, patients can be confident that all members of the practice team receive regular training and updating. The practice will close the surgery between 1.00 pm and 6.30 pm on the 3rd Tuesday of most months in the year (8 in total) to enable the GPs and staff training outside the practice. During this period an emergency service will provide GP cover to our patients.
